When you arrive
You will arrive at the Church of the Dunes in Grand Haven, be placed in "family" groups of 25, meet your guides, and receive identification papers for the census. These groups are based on the time designated on the ticket. It is important to arrive 15 minutes prior to the time shown on your ticket to ensure your place on the trail. From the church, groups will be transported to the start of the journey.
Along the Trail
Your journey will begin in Nazareth and end in Bethlehem for the purpose of the census. Guides will lead your family group along an outdoor, wooded trail lit only by candlelight and firelight. Along the way, you may be approached by imposing Roman soldiers, and meet Magi, prophets and scribes that tell of the prophesy of the coming Messiah. You will see shepherds with their flocks and you may even encounter beggars and thieves. Once you arrive in Bethlehem, your guide will haggle with the census taker and pay the tax before you are permitted to enter the village. In Bethlehem, you will be free to visit the shops and peruse their wares, visit an inn to seek lodging, and be led to the stable where you will find the greatest gift of all, the Christ child, laying in a manger.
Completion of the journey
Your group will be transported back to the church at the completion of the journey. When you return, you will be welcomed with plates of cookies, coffee, hot chocolate, and offered a place to warm up, relax, and share memories with your family and friends.
